Rangers release Allen, add King to pool

July 24th, 2020

The Rangers released veteran reliever and added left-hander John King to their 60-man player pool Friday.

Texas signed Allen, 31, to a Minor League contract in February, but the right-hander didn’t make the club’s 30-man Opening Day roster.

Allen spent last season with the Angels, recording a 6.26 ERA with four saves before being released in June. In his career, Allen owns a 3.14 ERA with 153 saves and an 11.5 K/9 mark. He played for the Indians over his first seven seasons and helped the club reach the World Series in 2016.

King, a 10th-round Draft pick in 2017, has posted a 2.56 ERA over 21 starts in his brief Minor League career, getting as far as Class A Advanced Down East.
