Rangers amateur scout Roger Coryell passed away Thursday at age 70 from complications of a stroke he suffered this week.
The team will hold a moment of silence in Coryell's memory before Friday's game against the Blue Jays in Arlington.
"The Texas Rangers are deeply saddened by the passing of Roger Coryell," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said in a statement Thursday. "Throughout his more than nine years with the organization, he showed the rare and invaluable ability to draft and sign future Major Leaguers at all stages of the Draft, highlighted by Ryan Rua (17th round), Jared Hoying (10th round) and Phil Klein (30th round). Roger was a dedicated and loyal member of the Rangers family."
Coryell came to the Rangers in 2009 as an area scout for Michigan and Ohio. He was named the team's Scout of the Year in 2014.
Before joining Texas, Coryell was the head baseball coach at Eastern Michigan University, where he was a two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year.
