The Rangers officially announced Saturday that they had signed right-hander Kyle Lohse to a Minor League contract. Lohse will join Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday in Albuquerque, and he will be activated prior to his first start for the Express within the next few days.
The New York Post's Joel Sherman reported that Lohse's contract is worth a prorated $2 million, with $1.5 million in performance bonuses. MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the first to report the deal on Friday, initially reported that the Rangers were expressing interest in Lohse last weekend. Lohse will be able to opt out of the deal on June 1 if he has not been called up to the Major Leagues, Heyman reported.
Lohse, 37, has pitched for five teams in his 15-year career. He is a veteran of 455 Major League appearances and was 5-13 with a 5.85 ERA for Milwaukee last season.
The Rangers' rotation has found itself slightly shorthanded with A.J. Griffin going on the disabled list and Yu Darvish still recovering from Tommy John surgery, which could create an opportunity for Lohse.
