• Ben Baroody, who has spent seven years with Major League Baseball and was senior director for baseball development and youth academies, has been hired as an assistant in the Rangers' amateur scouting department.
• Former Rangers pitching coach Mark Connor is returning to the organization as a special assistant. Conner briefly considered retirement before agreeing to return.
• Pirates manager Clint Hurdle will present Jeff Banister with his American League Manager of the Year Award at the Texas Rangers Dr Pepper Awards Dinner on Jan. 22 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. Hurdle was the Rangers' hitting coach in 2010 before becoming the Pirates' manager. Banister was Hurdle's bench coach for four years before being hired by the Rangers.
