DENVER -- The Rangers not only expected to rally in the ninth inning on Monday night, they planned exactly how they were going to pull it off.
Field coordinator Jayce Tingler told both Rougned Odor and Jurickson Profar to look for a chance to run on Rockies closer Carlos Estévez. They did exactly as told, and their double steal was the pivotal play that allowed the Rangers to come from behind for a 4-3 victory at Coors Field.
This is one in which the advance scouting work of Greg Smith, Adam Lewkowicz, Mitchell Webb and Adam Brenner came up big, and Tingler put it to work.
"That's a great job by our coaches and our scouts," manager Jeff Banister said. "We look for opportunities. We had the right combination of guys on the bag and the appropriate time. There were a number of factors; let's just say the coaches stayed on top of it."

The Rangers had recorded just three hits going into the ninth and trailed, 3-1, but Tingler had been thinking ahead, and it all fell into place. This victory -- their fifth of the season when trailing after eight innings -- comes right after their 11-inning win over the Astros on Sunday afternoon.
"That's a good momentum booster, especially winning the way we did the last couple of days against good teams," said starter Cole Hamels, who allowed two runs in six innings and avoided being tagged for the loss.

"It feels amazing to grind it out and win it like that," said Elvis Andrus, who delivered the game-tying two-run single after the double steal.

Adrián Beltré started the inning with a single up the middle off Estevez, though he was forced at second by Odor's grounder. Profar drew a walk, putting runners on first and second, and that's when Tingler proved prescient.
"We talked before that inning with Tingler," Odor said. "If Profar and I got on, we could steal the base. The pitcher was struggling to throw strikes, so I knew he wasn't worried about the runners. I know him pretty well, he moves his leg up, and he's pretty slow to the plate."
Odor looked at Profar, and they were off on the first pitch.
"When we got on first and second, we looked at each other and we were going right away," Profar said. "Tingler showed us what the pitcher was doing, and we went out and executed."
Andrus took advantage, bouncing a single up the middle to score both runners. The Rockies then brought in left-hander Boone Logan to face Mitch Moreland, who lined a double into the right-field corner to put the Rangers ahead.

"I tucked it in there," Moreland said. "Lefty on lefty, I was trying to grind out that at-bat, and I got a slider out over the plate and I was able to stay on it enough to keep it inside the line there and get the run in.
"Anything can happen, especially in this ballpark and with our team. We never give up. We've proved it all year, and we've continued to fight to the very last out. We were able to put some runs up late and get the win. It was awesome."
