SEATTLE -- General manager Jon Daniels is with the Rangers in Seattle this week for some of the usual end-of-the-year meetings. But Daniels said any decisions on the coaching staff for next year will not be addressed until after the season.
"We'll address that at the end of the year but these guys have done a good job," Daniels said. "I prefer to address the end-of-the-year stuff once we are done playing, but these guys have worked hard. We have had our share of challenges with the injuries and these guys have worked through it."
Bench coach Steve Buechele, third-base coach Tony Beasley and first-base coach Hector Ortiz are in their third season with the Rangers. Hitting coach Anthony Iapoce, his assistant Justin Mashore, pitching coach Doug Brocail and bullpen coach Brad Holman are in their second year. Field coordinator Josh Bonifay was added this past offseason when Jayce Tingler became the farm director.
Rangers beat
Jake Diekman recorded his first save on Sunday and was the seventh Rangers reliever to get a save this year. Matt Bush is still the leader with 10 saves. The last Rangers reliever to lead the club with as few as 10 saves was Odell Jones in 1983.
Diekman needed just 10 pitches to get five outs. That's the fewest pitches in a five-out save for a Major League reliever since Matt Capps on Sept. 3, 2010.
Banister said the Rangers are not auditioning Diekman to be the closer but said he could still use him in those situations down the stretch if needed.
