SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Rangers third-base coach Tony Beasley, who is dealing with rectal cancer, said he will start his chemotherapy treatments on Monday. Beasley will get one treatment every two weeks while the Rangers are in Arizona.
"According to the doctor, it shouldn't wipe me out energy-wise," Beasley said. "I'll still be able to come out and do all my normal activities. That's where we are at. It's good to see where we are and to start the fight."
Beasley was diagnosed with rectal cancer in January. The cancer is in Stage 2 so there is strong hope for full recovery. Beasley said he doesn't even think about his health when he is out on the field with his team.
"There is a philosophy here of what we need to get done to get ready and start the season," Beasley said. "That helps a lot."

• The Rangers did not have an update Tuesday on outfielder Josh Hamilton, who had his left knee examined on Monday in Alabama. Hamilton is returning to Arizona on Tuesday night.
• The Rangers signed right-handed pitcher Kevin Lenik to a Minor League contract. He pitched at Cal-State Dominguez Hills in 2015 and was among 80 players who tried out for the Rangers on Monday.
