Rangers top prospect Walcott caps Double-A campaign with torrid playoff run

The Frisco RoughRiders saw their season come to an end on Friday, but Sebastian Walcott was in peak form. The Rangers’ top prospect collected two hits and two stolen bases in a losing effort as Amarillo escaped with an 8-7 win to secure the Texas League South Division title. 

In his final game of 2026 at Riders Field, Walcott bookended his evening with hits. He led off the bottom of the first with a single before swiping second and third base. He came to the plate again in the ninth with the Riders down by three runs. He singled again to start the rally, coming home on a Dylan Dreiling (TEX No. 13) homer. But the club fell short of a comeback and watched as Amarillo delivered an epic celebration.

While Frisco’s playoff run was brief, Walcott made a statement with consecutive multihit performances. MLB’s No. 9 prospect launched a home run in Game 2 of the series to the berm in left-center field, sending a dozen young fans into a frenzy. He also swiped a base in that game, showing off his base-stealing aptitude. He finished the series slashing .364/.533/.636 with four steals.

Walcott’s postseason stint was a microcosm of his 2026 season -- short but tantalizing.

The 20-year-old missed the first half after undergoing an internal brace procedure in the offseason. He returned to Double-A on July 17 and wasted little time getting back to offensive production. Serving as the designated hitter while his arm further recovered, he batted .322 in 37 games with 22 extra-base hits and 20 RBIs. He made his first appearance at shortstop in the final game of the regular season and returned there Friday.
