Rangers deal RHP Jurado to Mets

August 5th, 2020

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers on Wednesday traded right-handed pitcher Ariel Jurado to the Mets for a player to be named later and cash.

Jurado was on the 40-man roster and in Summer Camp, but did not make the Opening Day roster. He was designated for assignment on July 31 so the Rangers could make room on the 40-man for first baseman Greg Bird and right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget.

Jurado was once a rising prospect in the Rangers system and was their Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2015. He has a sinking fastball that clocks at 92-95 miles per hour, but his secondary pitches weren’t as effective. Jurado was 7-11 with a 5.81 ERA in 18 starts and 14 relief appearances last season.
