The American League West champion Rangers and the AL Central champion Indians will match up for the 2017 H-E-B Big League Weekend exhibition series next March, it was announced on Thursday.
The two-game series will be played on March 17-18 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This will be the fifth year for the H-E-B Big League Weekend series. The event has drawn more than 60,000 fans per game since its inception in 2013.
"With the Indians and Rangers both clinching division championships, we couldn't feel better about the 2017 matchup," Big League Weekend executive director J.J. Gottsch said in a release.
The Rangers have clinched their second straight AL West title, and they currently have the best record in the AL, while the Indians have clinced their first division title since 2007.
The H-E-B Big League Weekend is jointly produced by the Rangers, the City of San Antonio and Ryan Sanders Baseball (of which former Ranger Nolan Ryan is a partial owner), as well as the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau and the San Antonio Missions.
The Rangers play in the exhibition series every year. Previously, they faced off against the Royals, Dodgers, Astros and Padres, who played in the first Big League Weekend, which was also the first baseball event in the Alamodome.
