WEST SACRAMENTO -- When the Athletics added three runs to their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning on Monday night at Sutter Health Park, it looked like the Rays’ six-game winning streak wasn’t far from coming to an end.
But just as quickly, the pendulum swung back the other way thanks to a resilient Tampa Bay lineup.
The first eight Rays reached base to start an eight-run eighth inning, powering a 10-6 comeback victory and running the club’s win streak to seven games -- all on the road.
Junior Caminero’s three-run homer three batters into the fateful eighth quieted the A's home crowd and cut the deficit to a run. Chandler Simpson tied things up with a single to right field, and Taylor Walls delivered the go-ahead blow, a two-run base hit to right-center.
Once again, the Rays rallied on the road to save Trade Deadline acquisition Freddy Peralta from picking up a loss on the mound. Peralta was better this time, allowing three runs in six innings for a quality start in his second outing with Tampa Bay.
The Rays (72-46) have yet to lose since the Aug. 3 Deadline, extending their lead in the American League East to six games over the Yankees.
