The Red Sox dealt right-hander Jordan Hicks, pitching prospect David Sandlin, cash considerations and two players to be named later to the White Sox for righty Gage Ziehl and a player to be named later, the club announced on Sunday.
Ziehl, 22, was ranked No. 14 in the White Sox system by MLB Pipeline. The right-hander was a fourth-round pick by the Yankees in the 2024 Draft and was dealt to Chicago for outfielder Austin Slater before the Trade Deadline last July. Ziehl went 7-6 with a 4.12 ERA in 22 games (21 starts) across three Minor League levels in '25.
The 29-year-old Hicks went 2-7 with a 6.95 ERA in 34 games (nine starts) with the Red Sox and Giants during the 2025 season. Boston acquired Hicks from San Francisco in the Rafael Devers blockbuster trade in June. Hicks posted an 8.20 ERA in 21 games out of the bullpen for the Red Sox following the deal.
Sandlin was the No. 8 prospect in the Red Sox system, per MLB Pipeline.
The Red Sox are sending $8 million to the White Sox in the deal, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Hicks is owed $24 million over the next two years.
