BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today acquired outfielder Eli White from the Atlanta Braves, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyler Uberstine.
White, 32, has played in 69 games for the Braves this season, batting .233 (31-for-133) with 17 runs scored, six doubles, one triple, five home runs, 17 RBI, and four stolen bases. In 41 games away from Truist Park, he has batted .299 (23-for-77) with a .337 on-base percentage and .818 OPS. The right-handed hitter has made 18 starts in right field, 10 in left field, six in center field, and one as the designated hitter. Selected by the Athletics in the 11th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the South Carolina native has hit .212 (168-for-793) with 25 doubles, six triples, and 25 home runs in 345 career Major League games with the Texas Rangers (2020-22) and Braves (2023-26).
Uberstine, 27, pitched in one game for Boston on April 5, his Major League debut, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing one run on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. The right hander has also pitched in 19 minor league games this season (three starts) between High-A Greenville (four games, one start) and Triple-A Worcester (15 games, two starts), posting a 3.23 ERA (14 ER/39.0 IP) with 48 strikeouts. Selected by the Red Sox in the 19th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 3.52 ERA (103 ER/263.2 IP) in 73 career minor league games (43 starts).
