BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Reinstated catcher Adley Rutschman from the 10-Day Injured List and added him to the active Major League roster. He will wear number 31.
- Designated catcher Jake Rogers for assignment.
- Transferred infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the 60-Day Injured List.
The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 38.
Rutschman, 28, was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles on August 3 with catcher Jake Rogers and cash considerations in exchange for catcher Carlos Narváez, minor league right-handed pitchers Anthony Eyanson and Kyson Witherspoon, minor league outfielder Enddy Azocar, and a player to be named later or cash considerations. He was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on July 20 with left wrist inflammation and played in two rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, starting one game as the catcher and one as the designated hitter. The switch-hitter played in 67 games for Baltimore this season, batting .251 (62-for-247) with a .331 on-base percentage, .764 OPS, 30 runs scored, 19 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and 47 RBI while making 49 starts as the catcher and 16 as the designated hitter. Originally selected by the Orioles with the first overall pick in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the Oregon native has hit .254 (540-for-2,126) with 289 runs scored, 122 doubles, six triples, 69 home runs, and 277 RBI in 572 career Major League games, all with Baltimore (2022-26).
Rogers, 31, played in three games for Boston after being acquired from the Baltimore Orioles on August 3 alongside catcher Adley Rutschman. He started two games as the catcher, going 3-for-6 with four runs scored, two doubles, two walks, and two RBI. The right-handed hitter has played in 42 games this season for the Detroit Tigers (36 games), Orioles (three games), and Red Sox (three games), making 35 starts as the catcher and batting .183 (19-for-104) with 15 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 11 RBI. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has hit .199 (217-for-1,093) with 47 home runs and 140 RBI in 373 career Major League games with the Tigers (2019-26), Orioles (2026), and Red Sox (2026).
Kiner-Falefa, 31, was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on June 20 (retroactive to June 19) with left forearm inflammation. The right-handed hitter has played in 47 games this season, batting .277 (33-for-119), with 19 runs scored and 13 RBI while making 21 starts at second base, nine at shortstop, and five at third base. Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Hawaii native has hit .263 (848-for-3,228) with 38 home runs and 299 RBI in 967 career games with the Rangers (2018-21), New York Yankees (2022-23), Toronto Blue Jays (2024, 2025), Pittsburgh Pirates (2024-25), and Red Sox (2026).
