Prior to tonight's game against the Cleveland Indians, the Boston Red Sox placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to July 29) with left knee inflammation and added right-handed pitcher Addison Reed to the active 25-man roster.
Reed will wear number 43. Bullpen coach Dana LeVangie will wear number 60.

Pedroia, 33, leads the Red Sox in batting average (.307) and on-base percentage (.381), having gone 103-for-336 with 17 doubles, six home runs, and 54 RBI as the only qualifying American League player with more walks (40) than strikeouts (37). In 27 games since June 26, he has batted .348 (39-for-112) with a .934 OPS, hitting four home runs in his last 17 games. He leads major league second baseman in fielding percentage (.997), with his lone error of the season coming on July 19 and snapping an errorless streak of 114 games, marking a Red Sox career record at the position. The 2007 AL Rookie of the Year, 2008 AL Most Valuable Player, and two-time World Series champion (2007, 2013) has hit .301 (1,786-for-5,930) with a .367 on-base percentage in 1,483 career games, all with Boston.
Reed was acquired yesterday by the Red Sox from the New York Mets in exchange for three minor league pitchers. The 28-year-old posted a 2.57 ERA (14 ER/49.0 IP) and converted 19 of 21 save opportunities in 48 appearances with the Mets this season, striking out 48 batters and walking only six in 49.0 innings. In 22 outings since May 29, he is 13-for-13 in save chances with a 1.54 ERA (4 ER/23.1 IP). The right-hander has not allowed a run in five appearances against American League teams, converting each of his four save opportunities and allowing only three hits in 4.0 innings. His average of 1.10 walks per 9.0 innings marks a career best and is the fourth-lowest among major league relief pitchers, while his 8.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks sixth among all relievers.
