Red Sox No. 2 prospect Gonzales has 1st multi-homer game, gets bump to Double-A

After a sluggish June, simply could not be stopped in July and August -- and it has earned him a promotion. The No. 2 Red Sox prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 79 prospect overall is moving up to Double-A Portland.

Gonzales certainly finished his time in High-A with a bang. He posted his first career two-homer game on Sunday, aiding a 10-5 win for Greenville over Hub City at Fifth Third Park.

Gonzales hit his first long ball in the sixth inning, giving Greenville a 7-4 lead with the solo shot. He punched a 1-0 pitch the opposite way to right field in an impressive display of power.

In the seventh, Gonzales went deep for the second consecutive at-bat, this time a two-run shot that made it 10-4 in favor of Greenville. This second blast was a liner toward left-center field that the broadcast reported at 113 mph off the bat.

Gonzales finished the day 3-for-4, tacking on a single in the fourth inning. He also scored in the third inning after being hit by a pitch.

The 19-year-old Gonzales -- primarily an outfielder but playing first base on Sunday -- amassed a .271/.391/.463 slash line, along with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs, in 89 High-A games in 2026. He’ll make the leap to the next level with an extended hot streak under his belt, boasting a .971 OPS since July 1.
