Reds non-tender right-hander Bailey

December 1st, 2021

CINCINNATI -- The deadline to offer 2022 contracts to club-controlled players on Major League 40-man rosters passed Tuesday with the Reds tendering contracts to all 10 of their players who were eligible for arbitration.

Among their other players under club control, only pitcher Brandon Bailey was non-tendered ahead of the 8 p.m. ET deadline. Bailey did not pitch in 2021 while recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.

Bailey will return to the club as a free agent on a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league Spring Training, he said on Twitter. The club has not made a formal announcement, however.

Bailey was originally acquired in a trade from the Astros on Nov. 20, 2020, in exchange for cash. Cincinnati’s 40-man roster currently has 38 players.

Here is the list of Reds players who are eligible for arbitration this winter:

Third-year eligible: RHP Luis Cessa, OF Tyler Naquin

Second-year eligible: RHP Luis Castillo, SS Kyle Farmer, LHP Amir Garrett, RHP Tyler Mahle, OF Jesse Winker

First-year eligible: RHP Jeff Hoffman, OF Nick Senzel, RHP Lucas Sims

In recent history, the Reds have employed a “file-and-trial” approach with their arbitration players, meaning they will go to a hearing against those who haven't agreed to a contract ahead of the deadline to exchange salary figures.
