SAN FRANCISCO -- Monday left Major League clubs exactly one week to go before the Aug. 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline. The Reds could be one of the teams that figures prominently in rumors this week, although no transactions appear to be imminent.
"We're staying busy," Reds general manager Dick Williams said by phone from Cincinnati. "We're engaged in multiple discussions with multiple teams. We're operating on a couple of fronts. It's hard to say if we'll get something done."
Williams plans to join the club in San Francisco on Tuesday. Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty arrived in town Monday. Both spent the weekend in Cooperstown to attend Ken Griffey Jr.'s induction into the Hall of Fame.
The rebuilding Reds have been looking to trade right fielder Jay Bruce for over a year. Bruce has re-established his value with a strong season, as has shortstop Zack Cozart following a 2015 season when he needed reconstructive right knee surgery.
One of the more recent developments has been rumors about starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani. Starting pitching is a high-demand item for clubs around the league. The Rangers were rumored last week to have interest in DeSclafani, but also the Rays' Chris Archer and Chris Sale of the White Sox.
It seems unlikely, however, that Cincinnati would move DeSclafani, who has four more years of club control after this season.
"We're not looking to move DeSclafani," Williams said.
That doesn't mean the Reds aren't willing to listen. That's the case on any player.
"Is there a price [for DeSclafani]? Sure, it's really high," Williams said.
• In his sixth rehab assignment start for Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Homer Bailey threw 98 pitches with 57 strikes over 4 1/3 innings. Bailey, who is trying to come back from Tommy John surgery, allowed two runs, five hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

It's likely this was Bailey's final rehab start, once the organization deliberates. If there were no issues, his next start could be for the Reds on Sunday. The club currently lists that day's starter vs. the Padres as "TBA."
