Reds give Pacheco Minors deal, camp invite

January 15th, 2016

CINCINNATI -- The Reds signed free-agent catcher/infielder Jordan Pacheco to a Minor League contract on Friday and invited him to big league camp at Spring Training.
Pacheco, who turns 30 on Jan. 30, has spent parts of the past five seasons in the Major Leagues with the Rockies and D-backs. Last season in 29 games for Arizona, he batted .242/.333/.333 with two home runs and eight RBIs. Over 58 games at Triple-A Reno, Pacheco batted .205/.297/.323 with two homers and 15 RBIs.
Besides catching, Pacheco also has experience at first base and third base. His best season was with Colorado in 2012, when he batted .309/.341/.421 in 132 games.
The Reds already have three catchers on the big league roster in Devin Mesoraco, Tucker Barnhart and Ramon Cabrera. But the club does lack corner-infielder depth behind first baseman Joey Votto and projected third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
