Reds top prospects of the week

September 13th, 2019

Here’s a look at the top performances of the past week by Reds prospects in the Minor Leagues:

Thursday, Sept. 12: Billings' season ends
Rookie Advanced Billings saw its season come to an end Thursday as the Mustangs fell to Idaho Falls, 6-4, in Game 3 of the best-of-three Pioneer League semifinals.

The Mustangs scored first in the contest, pushing across a run in the first inning on Victor Ruiz’s single. James Free’s solo home run in the third inning tied the game, as did Leonardo Seminati’s in the sixth, but the Mustangs’ bullpen allowed a three-run homer in the following frame, and the offense produced just one run the rest of the way in the loss. Seminati, a 20-year-old first baseman, paced the Mustangs at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, while leadoff man Quin Cotton -- the Reds’ eighth-round pick this past June -- recorded his second multihit game of the series, going 2-for-5 with an RBI.

With the loss, all Reds affiliates are eliminated from the playoffs and the organization's Minor League season is over. Thursday's prospect stats »

Monday, Sept. 9: Billings wins Game 2
Billings, the Reds’ Rookie-Advanced affiliate, picked up a 4-3 win over Idaho Falls in Game 2 of the Pioneer League semifinals. After losing Game 1 at home, the Mustangs bounced back with a must-win Game 2 on the road and will now look to earn a berth in the finals with a road win in Game 3 on Tuesday.
