Cincinnati opens slate at home against Nationals

While the Reds' 2017 season is coming to a close in just a matter of weeks, eyes are already turning toward next season. The 2018 season will open on the earliest date in Major League history, as the Reds will begin on March 29 against the Nationals. As is tradition, the Reds will play their first series of the season at Great American Ball Park.

Reds 2018 schedule

The Reds are beginning their the season on an early date due to a new rule that allows for the earlier Opening Day with additional off-days spread throughout the rest of the season. Excluding special season openers at international venues, the earliest Major League start date previously had been March 30.

The Reds will get a day off after their home opener and then play two more games against the Nationals, followed by a two-game home series against the Cubs.

Game times will be announced at a later date.

Cincinnati will play the American League Central in 2018, hosting Interleague matchups against the Tigers (June 19-20), White Sox (July 2-4), and Royals (Sept. 25-26). They will visit the Twins (April 27-29), Royals (June 12-13) and Tigers (July 31-Aug. 1).

The Reds will also have their annual home-and-home series against the Indians, as the rivalry will be a six-game series in 2018. The Reds will travel to Cleveland on July 9-11 and will later host the Tribe on Aug. 13-15.

The Reds end the regular season at home against the Pirates (Sept. 28-30).
