PITTSBURGH -- One of the few constants about the Reds' rotation this season is change. Another alteration is coming on Friday, when Asher Wojciechowski replaces Tim Adleman to make the start in the series opener vs. the Cardinals. Adleman will move to the bullpen and take Wojciechowski's long relief role.
"Just wanted to get a different look," Reds manager Bryan Price said on Wednesday. "Tim has had some really good games this year. He's had some others that have kind of slipped away. The one thing that we really want to see is some evolution."
Adleman is 5-9 with a 5.42 ERA in 20 games, including 19 starts, and his 24 home runs allowed are third-most in the National League. He's also allowed at least one homer in 12 straight games and was 0-5 with a 7.34 ERA in six July starts.

Wojciechowski had a 0.71 ERA in six relief appearances since he returned from Triple-A Louisville on July 2. During his first stint with Cincinnati, he was 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in six games, including four starts, and was designated for assignment on June 18.
On July 17, when Scott Feldman exited after one inning with a right knee injury vs. the Nationals, Wojciechowski delivered five strong innings of relief. Even though he succeeded in largely lower-leverage situations, he would like to bring that mentality of success to his start.
"What I was doing in the bullpen, just attacking guys, just making quality pitches and really just giving every single pitch my complete focus," Wojciechowski said. "It's really going after guys. I feel like when I was starting, that I was doing that. I just had some different outcomes. I definitely have a lot of confidence right now with how I've been throwing the ball. I'm excited to get another opportunity to start."
Adleman plans to make the most of the new situation.
"It's another opportunity for me to contribute to the team in a different role than I have been. That's pretty much the gist of it," Adleman said.
Wojciechowski might not have an extended audition, however. On the 10-day disabled list, Feldman threw a three-inning simulated game on Wednesday at PNC Park and reported no issues. Anthony DeSclafani is also on a rehab assignment and will soon enter the rotation.
"We'll have to see how [Feldman] comes out of it before we slot him back in," Price said. "We certainly know that if everything goes well with DeSclafani, he'll be back in another couple of weeks or so, possibly. Inevitably this was going to happen in that particular slot in the rotation."
Schebler update
Reds right fielder Scott Schebler, who was placed on the 10-day DL Tuesday with left shoulder inflammation, returned to Cincinnati and underwent an MRI exam Wednesday. It revealed he had bruises in his rotator cuff, but surgery is not needed. The medical report noted that Schebler will likely miss a few weeks. In the meantime, Reds No. 6 prospect Jesse Winker will get the opportunity in right field and his first extended opportunity.
