Hoskins feasts on Nats with decisive homer

June 28th, 2018

PHILADELPHIA -- is living his best life lately.
He has been hitting the ball incredibly well since he broke his jaw on May 28 at Dodger Stadium. He went 3-for-4 with one double, one home run and two RBIs in Thursday night's 4-3 victory over the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. Hoskins' two-run homer in the seventh inning against right-hander proved to be the game-winner.
Hoskins also got to eat a cheeseburger the other day. It was the first solid food he's had since breaking his jaw.
"Best burger I ever had," Hoskins said.
Hoskins is hitting .338 (24-for-71) with six doubles, seven homers, 20 RBIs and a 1.133 OPS in 19 games since he fouled a pitch off his face in Los Angeles. It includes a pinch-hit double on May 29 at Dodger Stadium, after physicians initially cleared him to play. He landed on the 10-day disabled list on May 30, returning to action June 9.

"It's good," Hoskins said about the healing process. "I think the six-week mark is when the doctor will feel good enough for me to hit without having the helmet. I think the next checkup is in eight days, nine days, 10 days. Something like that."
But will he ditch the helmet, which has flaps on both the right and left sides to protect his jaw?
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there," Hoskins said. "I can tell you that it's definitely been talked about and I definitely thought about it."
Is that because he is comfortable with it? Or is it because he is superstitious?
"Yes," Hoskins said.
