PHOENIX -- Home-series wins have been a rarity this season for the struggling D-backs. On Wednesday night at Chase Field, however, they won their second home series in a row with a 13-5 victory, taking two out of three games against the Mets after sweeping them in New York last week.
Rickie Weeks Jr. and Yasmany Tomás each hit a pair of homers, combining for 11 RBIs in support of starting pitcher Zack Godley (4-2). The right-hander allowed two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Arizona improved to 21-40 at home, winning just its sixth series at Chase Field this year.
"It's always great to have a good night like that," said Weeks, whose five RBIs matched a career high, previously set in 2013. "I just want to play. I'm a baseball player. Wherever they see fit to put me, I'm ready to play."
The Mets lost ground in the race for the second National League Wild Card spot, falling to four games behind the Cardinals. They have a .500 record for the fourth time in seven games.
New York starter Jonathon Niese (8-7) took the loss in his first start since July 10 and his first since the Pirates traded him back to the Mets on Aug. 1. The left-hander allowed four runs on four hits, including back-to-back homers by Weeks and Tomas, in 4 2/3 innings with a pair of walks and six strikeouts.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Power surge: Weeks and Tomas went back to back in the fourth to put the D-backs on the board and give them a 3-1 lead. Weeks added a three-run homer in the fifth for his eighth career multi-homer game and his first since June 25, 2013. Tomas homered again in the eighth, a three-run shot to straightaway center for his fourth homer in three days. The Arizona right fielder has eight home runs in his last 10 games and 12 in his last 19. He's now leads the D-backs with 25 homers this season.
"I keep the same routine every day, for the last three weeks," Tomas said through an interpreter. "At the beginning of the season, it was a different routine. Now, in the last three weeks, we've started to make a different routine." More >

Welcome back, Zack: Godley was moved back to the starting rotation after struggling lefty Patrick Corbin was shifted to the bullpen. He rewarded the D-backs with the longest outing of his career, winning for the first time since July 17. Godley had previously never gone deeper than six innings.
"His ball was moving all over the place," Arizona manager Chip Hale said. "They weren't squaring too many balls up on Zack. Very impressive, pitch count was great, it was as good as we've seen him throw."

Too little, too late: Trailing, 13-2, in the ninth against D-backs reliever Dominic Leone, the Mets didn't just lie down. Curtis Granderson led off the frame with his 19th home run of the season and René Rivera added a two-run shot that scored Travis d'Arnaud, but Randall Delgado came on for Arizona and got the final two outs.

Running Reyes:José Reyes led off the game with a single, eventually advanced to third base, and then raced home on a wild pitch from Godley to put the Mets ahead, 1-0. The veteran infielder has been hot of late, going 1-for-5 on Wednesday and six-for-18 with four runs scored in five games since returning from the disabled list on Saturday. He has three home runs and 11 RBIs in 21 games for the Mets this season.

The D-backs had two players record five or more RBIs in the same game for the second time in club history. Tomas drove in six and Weeks added five. The only other time it happened was on July 23, 2011, when Justin Upton had six RBIs and Miguel Montero had five against Colorado.

Mets:Jacob deGrom will take the mound on Thursday as the Mets open a four-game series against the Giants at AT&T Park at 10:15 p.m. ET. The right-hander took a no-decision in his last start despite allowing just one run over seven innings while striking out nine on Saturday against the Padres. In six starts since the All-Star break, deGrom is 2-1 with a 1.56 ERA.
D-backs: The D-backs take a short trip to San Diego to open a four-game series on Thursday at 7:10 p.m. MST at Petco Park. Archie Bradley (4-8, 4.91 ERA) will take the mound, looking for his first win this month. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA in three August starts.
