CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Twins No. 11 prospect Riley Quick, the team’s second pick in the 2025 Draft (No. 36 overall) is fine after being removed from his start in the second inning on Tuesday night.
Quick, making his third start at High-A Cedar Rapids after an early promotion from Single-A Fort Myers, was removed after nine batters on Tuesday night due to cramping in his right thumb. He said it’s not a new issue and that he expects to make his next scheduled start.
“It’s this thing that’s happened since college,” he said. “I get a thumb cramp. And basically when I get the cramp, my hand gets super tight. So I overgrip and start overthrowing a little bit. And that’s what causes the big misses. It’s usually something that I can throw through and manage pretty well, but last night it just got the best of me. But it’s nothing serious. I’ll be back out there again Sunday.”
In his first professional season, Quick has a 1.53 ERA in six starts across two levels. He’s racked up 27 strikeouts against eight walks in 17 2/3 innings, and four of those walks came Tuesday as he was battling the cramp.
