SAN DIEGO -- Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez was removed from Thursday's 3-2, 11-inning victory over the Padres in the ninth inning because of cramping in the right calf, but said he doesn't expect to miss additional time.
"I just got a cramp when I was going for that foul ball in the eighth inning," Gonzalez said, referring to one off the bat of Yangervis Solarte with the bases loaded and one out.
Manager Bud Black moved Alexi Amarista from shortstop to right field and brought in Trevor Story to play short. Story did not start Wednesday night or Thursday.
Black said he removed Gonzalez for "precautionary reasons." Black added that Gonzalez and the Rockies' medical staff believe he will be fine for Friday against the D-backs at home, but Black could sit him for precautionary reasons.

Gonzalez is slumping, at .200 after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout -- his 24th this season in 100 at-bats -- and a walk on Thursday. He had a line drive to left field Thursday and a couple well-struck balls to center Wednesday night, but has yet to find his stride. A three-time All-Star Game participant and two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, Gonzalez, 31, knows the Rockies need him productive and healthy.
"It'll come," Gonzalez said. "I've been in this situation before. It's kind of tough when you hit the ball hard and they're outs. That doesn't help the cause. But they will fall. I've got to continue to grind. Everything is going to be fine."
