Tinoco returns to Rockies on waiver claim

September 3rd, 2020

The Rockies have claimed right-hander off waivers from the Marlins, the club announced Thursday. Colorado will option Tinoco to its alternate training site at Salt River Fields.

Tinoco has pitched just five innings this season, putting up three scoreless appearances for Miami. He pitched for the Rockies last year after originally coming over in the July 2015 trade with the Blue Jays that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto, putting up a 4.75 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 22 walks across 36 innings. Colorado traded Tinoco to the Marlins for Minor League pitcher Chad Smith on Aug. 14 before claiming him again on waivers Thursday.

Tinoco could see action sometime soon for the Rockies, who have leaned heavily on their bullpen in recent days as they’ve allowed at least six runs in five of their last six contests.
