PHILADELPHIA -- In the context of a 17-game hit streak to begin his career, Rockies outfielder David Dahl had his first bad night on Friday.
The streak, which tied Chuck Aleno of the 1941 Reds for the Major League record, ended during the Rockies' 10-6 loss that saw Dahl go 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
The high point of his night illustrated how difficult a game it was. Dahl reached base in the second inning when he swung at a Jake Thompson third strike that bounced to the backstop. Other times, he chased pitches out of the strike zone
"It's nice to look back," Dahl said of his streak. "It was a good streak, good for a beginning. I just didn't have great at-bats. I'll bounce back tomorrow and try to adjust.
"I was swinging at bad pitches, a lot of balls. I didn't swing at a strike tonight, to be honest."
Nonetheless, Dahl is hitting .338 with three home runs, 10 RBIs and a .936 OPS through 18 games.
