DENVER -- Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez collected his 1,000th career hit with his second double of Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Reds.
"It's special, something that I really don't pay too much attention to," Gonzalez said. "I feel like every time you play for winning or playing for the guys next to you, great things like that happen. It's been my mentality since I got called up to the big leagues. I don't think it's going to change. So far, it's been helping me."
Gonzalez lofted a one-out, sixth-inning pitch from Raisel Iglesias that dropped in front of a diving Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton. Noting that second wasn't covered, Gonzalez, a power hitter who used speed earlier in his career before a knee injury in 2014, alertly took second.

If it wasn't a home run, it might as well have been a two-bagger. He has 196 doubles, 180 home runs and 35 triples. He is the 77th active player to collect 1,000 hits but his .291 batting average is tied for 17th-best among those players while his .526 slugging percentage is the seventh-highest among active players with 1,000 hits.
Gonzalez broke in with the Athletics in 2008, before arriving with pitcher Huston Street in a trade for outfielder Matt Holliday that winter. He has 928 hits in a Rockies uniform.

"That's something especially nice to do, especially from a kid from Maraciabo [Venezuela] -- I never thought I was going to be here and now I'm doing some special things," Gonzalez said. "I'm proud and I'm sure my family's proud, too."
