DENVER -- 's offseason weight training came into play Friday afternoon. He needed the muscles to lift all that hardware.
The Rockies celebrated their home opener with their usual color and military bent. But the predominant colors before the game against the Dodgers were gold and silver.
Arenado was the most decorated player, as he stood on the infield while various baseball dignitaries bestowed him with a Gold Glove Award -- his fourth in his first four big league seasons, the first third baseman in MLB history to accomplish that streak -- a Defensive Player of the Year Award (given to one player at each position, regardless of league) and a Silver Slugger Award.

But there was plenty of other hardware doled out. Center fielder Charlie Blackmon earned his first Silver Slugger Award, and second baseman DJ LeMahieu took home the Tony Gwynn Award for being the National League batting champion. New Rockies manager Bud Black, who associated with the late Hall of Famer Gwynn with the Padres, presented LeMahieu with the award.
Festivities started with a military march and color guard, featuring the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, with accompaniment by Stellar Brass, the United States Air Force Academy band. Airman 1st Class Danielle Diaz performed "The Star-Spangled Banner," backed by Stellar Brass, while 150 uniformed personnel from the military, the Denver Sheriff Department and the Denver Fire Department unfurled a giant American flag across the outfield.
An F-16C jet supported by the 120th Fighter Squadron, out of Buckley Air Force Base, conducted a flyover.
