PHOENIX -- Injured reliever Jason Motte will accompany the Rockies during the upcoming road trip that started Friday in Arizona, but there is no timetable for his return from the disabled list.
Motte, who was placed on the DL with shoulder strain April 3, threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Friday at Salt River Fields, the club's Spring Training facility, where he has been working out since the start of the regular season. He is expected to throw a bullpen session some time during the road trip through Arizona, San Diego and San Francisco and will eventually progress to throwing live batting practice sessions.
Motte said he is pain-free.
"I feel good and the ball is coming out really good," he said. "Each time and each bullpen has been a little more aggressive. I'm getting into a little more each time."
Motte signed a two-year, $10 million contract during the offseason . He earned 42 saves for the Cardinals in 2012 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in '13.
"With these kinds of things -- the shoulder or any arm injuries in general -- you have to take it slow and take it easy," Motte said. "It's annoying. It's just time. You have to let your body heal on its own time."
