SAN FRANCISCO -- The Rockies will roll out a few noteworthy improvements at Coors Field next season to celebrate their 25th anniversary in the Majors.
The projects were voted on and approved Wednesday by the Denver Metropolitan Major League Baseball Stadium District, and they will be funded by the Rockies pursuant to the new 30-year lease agreement.
A new left-center-field scoreboard by Daktronics will headline the upgrades. The new display will measure 8,369 square feet -- 258 percent larger than the current scoreboard. Presented in a unique shape -- the top will have the Rockies' mountain cutout -- the scoreboard is equivalent to 784 60-inch televisions with 6.8 million LEDs.
"We are always looking for ways to ensure the fan experience at Coors Field continues to be one of the best in all of sports," Rockies executive vice president/chief operating officer Greg Feasel said in a release. "Among the other facility improvements this offseason, we feel the new scoreboard is a critical enhancement for our 25th Anniversary Season. Daktronics has been a great partner in the design and advanced technology, and we're excited to present it to Rockies fans on Opening Day, 2018."
Other changes en route include new control-room technology and speaker enhancements to focus on the stadium's lower bowl. The Club Level, including concession and bar spaces on the first- and third-base sides, will be included in the changes. The Rockies' home clubhouse will also be modified.
Due to the improvements on tap, the Rockies announced they will celebrate their 25th anniversary season with several off-site fan events. Beginning in January, players and coaches will make visits throughout the Rocky Mountain Region and Coors Field will host a Hot Stove event for season-ticket holders.
