Here’s a look at the top performances of the past week by Rockies prospects in the Minor Leagues:
Monday, Sept. 9: Grand Junction falls to Ogden
Julio Carreras and Ezequiel Tovar combined to go 6-for-11 and drove in a pair of runs from the top two spots in the order, respectively, though it wasn’t enough to keep Grand Junction from falling to Ogden, 6-5, in 10 innings. Carreras, a 19-year-old third baseman, paced the offense from the leadoff spot by going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI. Tovar added an RBI and two hits from the two-hole, finishing the game 2-for-5.
Cole Simpson, who put Grand Junction on the board via a sac fly in the first inning, tied the game at five with an RBI double in the top of the ninth, only for the Rockies to lose in the 10th on an infield error. Monday's prospect stats »
Monday, Sept. 2: Nevin finishes strong
Tyler Nevin hit a double as part of a 2-for-5 performance on Monday in Double-A Hartford’s final game of the year. The Rockies’ No. 11 prospect’s multihit game brought to an end a solid second half in which Nevin batted .278/.355/.469 with nine homers, 20 doubles and 42 RBIs in 68 games for the Yard Goats. Overall, the 22-year-old corner infielder batted .251 with 13 homers and 26 doubles in his first Double-A campaign. Monday's prospect stats »
Sunday, Sept. 1: Vilade continues hot streak
No. 6 prospect Ryan Vilade continued his hot hitting for Class A Advanced Lancaster by going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and two runs. Vilade’s multihit performance -- the 20-year-old infielder’s third during his five-game hitting streak -- to open September follows a superb month of August in which he batted .368/.412/.615 with seven homers, 18 RBIs and eight steals in 28 games. For the season, Vilade has produced a .303/.367/.466 line with 12 homers (39 XBH) and 24 stolen bases in 128 games.
