DENVER -- Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story was proud of the support he received -- even if some of it puzzled him -- in his unsuccessful bid for the 87th All-Star Game presented by MasterCard via the Esurance Final Vote.
Story finished third behind Giants first baseman Brandon Belt, who earned the final National League roster spot via fan voting that concluded Friday afternoon, and Pirates outfielder Starling Marte. D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb and Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun finished behind Story.
"Obviously, everyone wants to win but there are a lot of guys deserving and not everybody can make it," Story said. "I'm just thankful to my teammates and all the people that went out of their way to vote and campaign for me. It means a lot to me."

Story said he concentrated on baseball and didn't spend much time checking the online activity, but he noticed that Emmanuel Sanders, a wide receiver for the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos, and Denver Nuggets first-round draft pick Jamal Murray lent their hands. Story dominated the Rocky Mountain region, the Dallas Metroplex (he is from Irving, Texas), Houston (the Rockies formed a partnership with the Astros, who had outfielder George Springer as an AL Final Vote candidate) and Alaska.
Then there was Canada, where he carried 32.4 percent of the vote. Lamb was next at 20.7 percent. Winner Belt was last at 11.6.
Canada? Has he ever even been?
"No," Story said. "I don't know … It's pretty cool to see that, but I don't have an explanation for it. I love the support. It's awesome."
