No flag on this foul ball caught by former QB Peete in Tokyo Series

Dodgers third baseman ranged toward the stands in hot pursuit of a foul ball during Wednesday’s game vs. the Cubs in the Tokyo Series. In the sixth inning during Ian Happ's at-bat, Muncy stretched over the protective netting and stuck out his glove, but all he could do was watch a fan wearing a Dodgers sweater make the grab instead.

Wait, is that Rodney Peete?!

Peete, who spent 16 years as a quarterback in the NFL, is much more used to throwing balls than catching them. But his clean snag inside the Tokyo Dome is a reminder that he was a star on the diamond in his younger days.

Peete was an infielder at the University of Southern California from 1985-88 and played alongside future big league All-Star Bret Boone on the Trojans team that made the NCAA Tournament in ‘88. Peete was also drafted four times by Major League clubs -- including by the Tigers in 1990 after he had already begun his pro football career.

Peete was sitting next to his wife, actress Holly Robinson Peete, during the game. They are the proud parent of RJ Peete, who has been a Dodgers clubhouse attendant since 2016.

Rodney and Holly will leave Tokyo after watching their son’s team sweep the Tokyo Series, with a 6-3 victory in the finale. And they got a souvenir as well.
