Acuña exits with left hamstring tightness, Braves waiting for MRI results

May 3rd, 2026

DENVER -- left the middle game of the three-game set with the Rockies in the second inning Saturday with left hamstring tightness.

“We're getting an MRI,” manager Walt Weiss said after the game. “It didn't look great, him coming off the field there, but we’re hoping maybe it's some cramping and that type of thing. But that's never good when we get an MRI.”

Weiss said he expects to have results late Saturday or early Sunday.

“We'll see the severity of it, but I didn’t like the way it looked,” Weiss said.

Acuna is slashing .252/.362/.378, raising his average 85 points over the past month.

“Ronnie is starting to swing the bat [well],” Weiss said. “Hopefully, if he is out, it'll be short-term.”

Acuña was running out a grounder to second and started limping and hopping on one foot about halfway to first base. The Braves’ trainer made a quick trip to the infield dirt beside first with Weiss to check on Acuña, and the right fielder walked off the field with them and left the game.

The grounder advanced Jorge Mateo, who hit a one-out double off the fence in front of the Rockies’ bullpen. Drake Baldwin then plated Mateo with a single up the middle to give the Braves a lead on their way to a 9-1 win.

Acuña hit a leadoff single in the first frame, extending his on-base streak to 23 games, and scored the game’s first run on Baldwin’s two-run homer to left. He was replaced by Eli White in right field in the third.

“You never like to be challenged like this,” Weiss said of the potential impact of losing Acuña to the injured list. “He’s one of your best players and most talented players. If it happens, we'll be OK. We’ve got lots of moving parts.”
