ARLINGTON -- Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor said he doesn't regret declining to take paternity leave after his girlfriend Liusca Criollo gave birth to a daughter, Emma Valentina, on Sunday morning.
Odor had the option to miss up to three games on paternity leave and be replaced on the roster. But he elected to stay active, even though he was operating on relatively little rest. Odor strained his left hamstring in the first inning of Monday's game and is expected to miss at least three weeks.
"We hadn't been playing how we want," Odor said. "It was not the right time to take three days off. That's why I didn't take it. If we were playing on the road, it might have been different. But we were playing at home."
Odor tweaked the muscle Thursday in Oakland, but there was no discomfort and he was able to play in the three-game series against the Blue Jays over the weekend without issues.
"I was doing all the treatment and stretching to make it better," Odor said. "I was feeling good."

This is the first time in Odor's career that he has been on the disabled list. The longest he has ever had to sit was his seven-game suspension in 2016 for his brawl with Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista.
"Right now, I just want to get my leg better," Odor said. "When my leg is good, I'll start hitting again. I don't when that will be, but right now I'm worried about getting my leg right."

Martin, Ohtani catch up
The Rangers-Angels series has allowed Texas reliever Chris Martin to have a chance to speak with one of his former Nippon-Ham Fighter teammates. Martin became good friends with two-way player Shohei Ohtani while playing for the Fighters the past two seasons in Japan, and they have had a couple of conversations while the Angels have been in town.
"We were teammates for two years; we talked as much as we could and learned from each other," Martin said. "He was asking questions all the time because he was set on coming over here. Looks like he is having a good time. He is enjoying our culture and how the players are welcoming him into the clubhouse."
Martin said he has no doubts Ohtani will be successful in the Major Leagues.
"He has a lot of tools, he's driven, and he's ready to take on this challenge," Martin said. "It's great for baseball: Having a guy who pitches and throws 100 [mph], and in BP hits 500-foot home runs. It's always fun to watch, no matter who it is. His mindset is to be the best player he can be."
Rangers beat 
• Martin Perez, Jesse Chavez and Bartolo Colon each pitched three innings in the Rangers' 11-1 loss to the Angels on Tuesday night. It's the fifth time in club history that three pitchers each pitched three innings in a game. The last occurence was Dustin Nippert, Alexi Ogando and Matt Harrison on June 23, 2010.
• Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who made his Major League debut Tuesday, is the fifth Ranger in history who was born in Hawaii. The others were Charlie Hough (1980-90), Brandon Villafuerte (2001), Scott Feldman (2005-12) and Jerome Williams (2014).
• Delino DeShields is scheduled to be examined by Dr. Tom DiLiberti on Thursday and is hoping to get clearance to start swinging a bat. DeShields had surgery on his left wrist on April 2 to remove a broken hamate bone.
