SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- In the same week Scott Blewett was named Pitcher of the Week in the Arizona Fall League, the righty pitched a successful outing that lead to the Scorpions' 3-1 victory.
Gameday
The Royals' No. 26 prospect threw five scoreless innings while striking out six and allowing one hit and no walks. Forty-two of his 58 pitches were strikes.
"I got my slider into play today," Blewett said. "My fastball command was on from the first pitch and anytime that's working, you're going to have some good success.
"You've got the best defense behind you and you've just got to trust them and throw strikes."
In three starts this Fall League season, Blewett has struck out 12 in as many innings (0.73 ERA), allowing a run and six hits.
These Fall League appearances are comparably better than his 2018 season for Double-A Northwest Arkansas where he posted a 4.79 ERA in 26 games (25 starts).
"I think in the first half the season I had a slow start," Blewett said. "From the second half on, I got that confidence back and strung together a bunch of really good starts and kind of carried that over into the Fall League."
Other Royals prospects on the field today were outfielder Nick Heath and catcher Meibrys Viloria. Heath, who's batting .324, went 0-for-3 but walked and scored a run in the first inning to put Surprise ahead.
