GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Royals erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning, turning a tight contest with the White Sox into a 9-2 victory at Camelback Ranch on Thursday afternoon. But two individual moments overshadowed that one frame.
Drew Butera delivered the highlight of the seventh with a two-run inside-the-park homer. Butera's line drive to left barely eluded the glove of Jason Coats, and Leury Garcia's bobble in center allowed Butera to score. It was the second inside-the-park homer of the week for the Royals, with Butera joining Bubba Starling.
This piece of excitement came two innings after the White Sox turned a triple play. With two on in the fifth and Scott Carroll on the mound, Tony Cruz lined out to Coats. But with both runners moving, Coats fired to shortstop Jimmy Rollins to double off the runner at second, and Rollins fired to first baseman Mike Olt to get the third out.

Alex Gordon had two hits, giving him six in the last two games. Ian Kennedy made his second spring start, both coming against the White Sox, and allowed one run on two hits over three innings. He threw 52 pitches, 31 for strikes.
Matt Davidson and Brett Lawrie went deep for the White Sox. Entering Thursday, the team had 12 home runs from 12 different players. These two homers were the second for each of these players.

White Sox top prospect Carson Fulmer made his second start, with both coming against the defending World Series champs. He allowed one run on two hits over 2 1/3 innings, striking out two while throwing 52 pitches.
"The last outing, a couple of those guys barreled me up a little bit," Fulmer said. "I got hit around, but going into this game, I kept the same approach, same pitch sequences for the most part, but made better-quality pitches this outing, and I definitely had better results."
Up next for the Royals: Kansas City returns home to Surprise Stadium to face the D-backs at 2:05 p.m. CT on Friday. Right-hander Chris Young will make his second start of the spring, followed by Dillon Gee, Joakim Soria and Brian Flynn. Young gave up three hits and one run over two innings in his first spring outing. The game can be heard on an exclusive MLB.com webcast.
