LOS ANGELES -- Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain was ejected in the seventh inning during Saturday night's 5-4 loss in 10 innings to the Dodgers.
Cain was tossed after arguing with home-plate umpire Bill Miller. Cain was frustrated by a called third strike thrown by reliever Pedro Baez with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.
"I looked at the video, it was clearly a ball," Cain said. "I had a few words with him, just went up to him and let him know how I felt. I just told him why [can't he] just admit he just missed the call. He just kept saying 'I had him strike, it was a strike, it was a strike.' I mean, whatever. What can you do about it?"
The strikeout proved costly as Baez escaped the jam by getting Eric Hosmer to knock a soft grounder toward first base. The Royals had just tied the game at 3 on Whit Merrifield's RBI single against Brandon Morrow, but couldn't capitalize on the bases loaded opportunity to pull ahead.

"It was a huge situation," said Cain, who was 1-for-3 with a walk prior to his ejection. "That could have been pretty much the difference between a win and a loss. It was tough. I definitely wanted to get up there and drive some runs in there. To get called strike three on that, it was frustrating, and I didn't like it at all."
The Royals and Dodgers exchanged solo home runs in the eighth -- by Salvador Perez and Cody Bellinger -- pushing the game into the 10th where Los Angeles won after drawing four straight walks.

Kansas City finished 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base.
"I didn't think that was a strike," said Hosmer, who was on deck during Cain's at-bat. "That's a critical part of the game, so he has every right to be fired up. He's a competitive guy, especially in that situation.
"This is a big series for us. It's a good team over there. We're trying to end the first half or at least go into the All-Star break on a good note. He's got every right to be fired up."
