Royals place Matt Strahm on DL; recall Miguel Almonte from Omaha

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 1, 2017) -- The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have placed left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm on the 10-day disabled list with left knee inflammation. To take Strahm's place on the roster, the Royals have recalled right-handed pitcher Miguel Almonte from Omaha (AAA). Almonte (#50) will be in uniform for this evening's contest against the Minnesota Twins, which is scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m.

This marks Almonte's third stint in the Major Leagues this season. The 24-year-old righty has made one relief appearance for the Royals this year, allowing three runs on four hits in Cleveland on May 28. He's 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 11 combined appearances (seven starts) between Omaha and Northwest Arkansas (AA) this season.
