Things are going pretty well for Allan de San Miguel these days.
Not only is his Australian team set to play in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier final on Sunday (2 p.m. local, 10 p.m. ET on Saturday; live on MLB Network, MLB.com and WorldBaseballClassic.com), but the catcher also found himself a new job.
de San Miguel has come to terms on a Minor League contract with the Kansas City Royals, according to the Australian Baseball League.
The Royals have not confirmed the signing.
"I wasn't sure what I was going to do," the 28-year-old catcher told the league's website. "I really wasn't. I sat down and talked to a couple people about it and said, 'Whatever happens, happens for a reason,' and I would just wait and see what came up.
"And then Kansas City called. It kind of came out of nowhere. I had talked to my agent a little bit and he asked me what I wanted to do and I told him I was still looking for a job somewhere. The next morning, I woke up and I had an email from my agent saying I got a job offer."
de San Miguel has previously spent time with both the Orioles and Twins' organizations. The catcher spent the 2014 campaign in Australia and in independent ball. In 2015, the catcher appeared in a trio of games for Triple-A Rochester.
