Here's the Royals' Spring Breakout roster
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Royals’ future will be on display all over the field on March 17, when a roster full of their prospects take on the Brewers’ prospects during Spring Breakout at Surprise Stadium.
In fact, this game specifically features the two teams sending the most Top 30 prospects, with 24 each on the Royals and Brewers rosters.
Eight of the Royals’ top 10 prospects on the newly released MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 list will represent Kansas City in Spring Breakout, including No. 1 prospect Blake Mitchell. The No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 Draft, Mitchell now ranks 94th overall on Pipeline’s Top 100 list. The Royals’ catching core is deeper than it’s been in some time with three catchers on the Top 30 list -- and all three are on the Spring Breakout roster with Mitchell, Carter Jensen (No. 11) and Ramon Ramirez (No. 15).
Teams were allowed to have 23-27 players on their rosters, and the Royals will dress the maximum amount on March 17 for their 3:05 p.m. CT game.
It remains to be seen who pitches in the game, as it will depend on the spring schedule and each player’s progression as they get ready for the season. But young players and those close to Kansas City will be suiting up, including two on the 40-man roster: righty Will Klein (No. 19) and outfielder Tyler Gentry (No. 10). We’ll also see five players from the 2023 Draft on the roster as they get ready for their first full professional season: Mitchell, Blake Wolters (No. 7), Carson Roccaforte (No. 17), Trevor Werner (No. 20), Hunter Owen (No. 23) and Hiro Wyatt (No. 26).
