Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Ryne Nelson was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained right elbow on Friday, retroactive to June 16. Arizona called up right-handed pitcher Yilber Díaz to take Nelson’s spot on the active roster.
In 15 starts this season, Nelson has produced a 4.97 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP. He is in his fifth Major League season with the Diamondbacks after being selected in the second round of the 2019 Draft out of Oregon.
Díaz has appeared in eight MLB games since 2024, producing a 4.31 ERA in 31 1/3 innings. In Triple-A Reno, Díaz has a 4.50 ERA in 32 innings out of the bullpen.
Arizona ranks 16th in baseball with a 4.16 ERA entering a three-game series with the Twins.
