The Mets have extended the contract of general manager Sandy Alderson, the team announced Wednesday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Alderson has been the Mets' GM since Oct. 29, 2010, when he replaced Omar Minaya and became the 12th GM in the franchise's history. He presided over the team's run to the World Series in 2015 and National League Wild Card Game in '16. His contract expired after this season, and an extension was expected.
"I feel that we have some unfinished business," Alderson said in a statement. "Spring Training is around the corner and our quest to return to the postseason will continue."
Among the notable moves during Alderson's time as Mets GM are the hiring of two managers -- Terry Collins at the start of his tenure and new manager Mickey Callaway this offseason -- the signing of David Wright to a long-term contract extension in 2012, and the trades that acquired Noah Syndergaard in December '12 and Yoenis Cespedes prior to the 2015 Trade Deadline.
"I'm excited that Sandy will continue to lead the organization," Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said in a statement Wednesday.
Alderson was named Baseball America's 2015 Executive of the Year after the Mets made their first Fall Classic since 2000.
