Fans go bananas for player introducing self

Catcher Bill LeRoy became his walkup music

July 26th, 2021

Savannah Bananas catcher Bill LeRoy didn’t just choose his walkup music on Saturday night; he became his walkup music.

Handed a hot mic and acting as his own hype man while walking up to the plate, the backstop pumped up the home crowd as well as baseball fans across the internet with a thrilling PA announcement.

“Now hitting, from the big town of Dublin, Ga., No. 1, University of North Georgia alumni … MYSELF, Bill LeRoy”

In case you were wondering, LeRoy coaxed a walk after serenading the folks in attendance.

LeRoy, a redshirt senior, is hitting .256 with one home run and 18 RBIs across 26 games this season. The Bananas, a self-proclaimed “circus-like” baseball team in the summer collegiate Coastal Plains League, lead the league with a 33-7 record and continue to prove they are more than just a novelty act. Notable alumni include Atlanta Braves No. 4 prospect Braden Shewmake.

Saturday’s viral clip wasn’t the first time LeRoy provided laughs when handed a hot mic. Here’s to hoping it’s not the last either.
