Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer will be in action today for the Nationals, looking to build upon his strong debut outing last week. The right-hander will make his second start of the year at Nationals Park when Washington hosts Mike Leake and the Cardinals in a late afternoon contest.
Scherzer's outing, along with starts by Marcus Stroman and Michael Fulmer, is among the highlights of Wednesday's full 15-game MLB slate, which is available for streaming live on MLB.TV.

Scherzer takes on Cards: STL@WSH, 4:05 p.m.
In his season debut, Scherzer quelled any concerns over the stress fracture in his right ring finger that kept him out of the World Baseball Classic, limited him throughout the offseason and prevented him from making a third consecutive Opening Day start. The veteran hurler retired the first 10 batters he faced and looked like his usual self as he held the Phillies to two runs over 6 2/3 innings in the Nats' victory.
"There's a lot of things I can improve upon to sharpen up in my next start," Scherzer said. "But to have that go as well as it did today, considering from where I've been in spring to now have fastball command, it's nice."
Scherzer's next challenge will come against the Cardinals, who will send Leake to the mound. Leake turned in a stellar performance against the Reds his last time out, allowing just one run over eight innings, but received no support from the offense in the hard-luck loss.

Stroman stars in Interleague bout: MIL@TOR, 7:07 p.m.
Stroman leaned on his sinker often in his season debut and to productive results, recording all but two of his outs via groundouts or strikeouts and inducing three double plays. The 25-year-old righty earned the win, holding the Rays to one run and six hits with five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
"It feels good right now," Stroman said of his sinker. "I feel like I have a pretty good feel for it whenever I want to throw in the zone. So once I have that pitch going, all of my other pitches kind of play off that."
The Jays are looking for repeat performance from their ace against Chase Anderson and the Brewers in the finale of a three-game Interleague series at Rogers Centre.

Fulmer, Gibson duel in AL Central clash: MIN@DET, 1:10 p.m.
This American League Central rivalry has been one-sided of late, with Detroit winning 16 of the last 20 matchups with Minnesota. The Tigers are hoping for more of the same when they send Fulmer to the mound at Comerica Park. Last season's AL Rookie of the Year picked up right where he left off with six scoreless innings in his debut against the Red Sox.
Right-hander Kyle Gibson will start for the Twins, coming off a no-decision against the Royals in which he yielded three runs in five innings.

Montgomery makes MLB debut in the Bronx: TB@NYY, 1:05 p.m.
Left-hander Jordan Montgomery, the Yankees No. 13 prospect, per MLBPipeline.com, will make his Major League debut against the Rays. Montgomery claimed the No. 5 spot in the New York rotation after an impressive showing this spring. The 24-year-old was a fourth-round Draft pick out of South Carolina in 2014.
"He was really good in Double-A, he was really good in Triple-A, and we thought he pitched extremely well when we started him in Spring Training," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "That's why he's getting an opportunity."
The Rays will counter with their own young southpaw in Blake Snell, who made his big league debut at Yankee Stadium last season. He's 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA through two career starts in the Bronx.
