Gennett to start Minors assignment Tuesday

May 8th, 2016

CINCINNATI -- Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is ready for baseball again.
Sidelined since straining his right oblique on April 25 during a round of batting practice at Wrigley Field, Gennett was scheduled to spend Monday in Miami with the Brewers before joining Class A Advanced Brevard County for a Minor League rehabilitation assignment beginning Tuesday, the same day Gennett is technically eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list. The Manatees are at home that night against Dayton.
Whether Gennett plays in the Minors beyond Tuesday remains to be seen.
"I just think we'll wait and see how many games he'll play," manager Craig Counsell said.
Gennett had multiple hits in three of the six games he played before he got hurt. He is batting .258 this season with a .361 on-base percentage, which would set a career high. He already has 10 walks in 72 plate appearances, two shy of his total last season in 391 plate appearances.
