ARLINGTON -- Rangers manager Jeff Banister said he believes that Shin-Soo Choo has done enough this season to earn All-Star consideration.

And in the coming weeks, Banister said he could make a pitch for Choo to Astros manager AJ Hinch, who will manage the American League in the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard.
"AJ and I talk quite a bit, so I'm sure the subject could come up at some point," Banister said. "How things have gone for us on a day-to-day basis, and what he's done, I believe that he should be recognized as a guy that should have an opportunity to be recognized as an All-Star."
Choo has never been named an All-Star in his 14-year career. Entering Monday, Choo had reached base safely in a career-high 37 straight games, ranked third in the American League in walks (52) and was sixth in on-base percentage (.393).
Choo also had 14 home runs entering the day, which is the most he's ever hit prior to the All-Star break.
"He's made a conscious effort to get back to who he is, [and] what his foundation has been as a hitter," Banister said. "An on-base guy first, and when he's doing that, he's seeing pitches. He's focused more on driving the ball that he gets to hit, his pitch. He's really good at it, and it keeps him from chasing balls out of the zone."
Dallas Stars trio takes batting practice on theme night
The Rangers held a Dallas Stars theme night at Globe Life Park on Monday, and Stars captain Jamie Benn, goalie Ben Bishop and defenseman Stephen Johns all took part in batting practice before the Rangers' series opener against the Padres.
The trio also participated in the first-pitch ceremony.
Rangers beat
Left-hander Martin Perez, who is on the disabled list with nerve inflammation in his right arm, will make a rehab start for Class A Hickory on Monday. Perez has been on the disabled list since late April.
The Rangers enter their three-game Interleague series against the Padres winners of their past three series. That is the club's longest streak since Aug. 29-Sept. 6, 2017, when it also won three in a row.
The Rangers were shut out for the third time this season Sunday against the Twins. The club's two hits matched its lowest total since May 20, against the White Sox.
