We finally found something Ohtani can't do

September 10th, 2022

By now, we're all used to Shohei Ohtani simply being phenomenal at everything: Pitching, hitting, baserunning, resuscitating his bat, the list goes on and on. If he doesn't repeat as American League Most Valuable Player -- Aaron Judge presents a tough challenge -- he will probably finish second.

That said, according to some unearthed footage of Ohtani that has been making the rounds on social media this week, he's hardly a unicorn when it comes to his golf acumen.

Swinging his clubs right-handed, Ohtani -- who bats lefty when playing for the Angels -- doesn't exactly distinguish himself, flubbing a couple of attempted drives and falling short on what appears to be a gimme putt. He does seem adept, however, at driving the cart.

Given his mastery of every aspect of the national pastime, one might expect Ohtani to be amazing at anything else he tries, rather than looking as if he'd never so much as set foot in a TopGolf. Perhaps we were spoiled by Mookie Betts, who excels at bowling, basketball, football and, from the looks of it, golf. (Though you shouldn't trust him with your golf cart!)

For all we know, Ohtani has markedly improved at golf since whenever this video was shot. But if that hasn't happened, it's kind of endearing to know that the guy is human after all, especially since he appeared to be characteristically good natured about his struggles on the links.
